How to clean household appliances

Did you know that cleaning your kitchen appliances doesn’t require any fancy cleaning solutions or techniques? That’s right, just a few simple ingredients are all you need to have sparkling clean appliances in no time.

In this post, we’ll break down the easiest ways to clean everyday household appliances using simple cleaning products you probably already have at home.

Grab your rubber gloves and let’s get cleaning.

Microwaves can easily get dirty from spills and messy food, but cleaning them is rather easy. You just need a few basic ingredients and a bit of elbow grease to get your microwave squeaky clean.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Warm water
  • Damp rag
  • Dry dish towel
  • Microwave-safe dish

How to do it:

  1. Place a microwave-safe dish filled halfway with water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar in your microwave and run it on high for five minutes to loosen up any stubborn stains.
  2. Carefully remove the dish and circular glass tray from your microwave.
  3. Place the circular tray in warm water with dish soap. For cooked-on stains, allow it to soak for a few minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, use a damp cloth to wipe down the inside of your microwave to remove any stains.
  5. As your microwave dries, scrub the circular glass tray with a rag and wipe it with a dry towel. Put it back in your microwave.
  6. Close the door and wipe down the outside of your microwave with a damp cloth to remove any finger smudges.

A dirty stovetop can make even the nicest kitchens look bad. If your stovetop is full of grease, dried gook, and other stains, there’s a quick and simple method to get it sparkling clean once again.

What you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Clean cloth
  • Scrubbing sponge

How to do it

  1. Sprinkle baking soda over any tough stains on the stovetop and spritz the baking soda with a bit of white vinegar.
  2. Let it sit on the stovetop for 15-30 minutes.
  3. Use a damp scrubbing sponge to scrub the baking soda and stains off of the surface.
  4. Follow up with a damp cloth soaked in soapy water.
  5. Rinse the cloth clean and give the stove a final wipe.

Over time, fridges can get a little gross from food spills and forgotten about produce. It’s a good idea to clean your fridge out every once in a while and give it a good scrub to avoid any nasty smells.

What you’ll need:

  • Vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Cleaning rag
  • Scrubbing sponge
  • Spray bottle

How to do it:

  1. Remove all of the items from your fridge out and take out any removable shelves and drawers that need a deep clean.
  2. Fill a spray bottle with one part white vinegar to three parts water.
  3. Spray the cleaning solution onto the interior surfaces of your fridge.
  4. Use a scrubbing sponge to tackle any stains and wipe the rest of the interior down with a rag.
  5. Wash any removable shelves and drawers in warm, soapy water.
  6. Dry the shelves and drawers and put them back in the fridge.
  7. Restock your fridge and close the door.
  8. Use a cleaning rag soaked in warm, soapy water and wipe down the outside of the fridge and handles.
  9. Use a dry cloth to go over the surface and prevent water stains.

Blenders can be a bit tricky to clean by hand, and some blenders shouldn’t go in the dishwasher. Luckily, you can safely get your blender clean without sticking your hand inside near the sharp blade.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 2 cups warm water
  • Baking soda
  • 3 drops of dish soap

How to do it:

  1. Pour ingredients into the blender and put the lid on.
  2. Turn the blender on and let it run for a few seconds.
  3. To remove stains, allow the mixture to sit in the blender for a few minutes.
  4. Pour the cleaning solution out and rinse with clean, warm water.

Dishwashers are a real lifesaver when it comes to keeping your house clean, but even appliances meant to keep things clean need to get cleaned themselves. Try to monitor your dishwasher for any stains or strange smells to make sure it’s cleaning your dishes as best as possible. If you do notice that your dishwasher is looking a little dirty, theres a simple way to clean it right up.

What you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • Dish soap
  • Scrubbing sponge
  • Cleaning rag
  • Vinegar
  • Hot water
  • Bleach

How to do it:

  1. Empty your dishwasher and take out any removable drawers and racks.
  2. Sprinkle about a half cup of baking soda onto a soft sponge and squeeze three drops of dish soap on the sponge.
  3. Scrub the inside surfaces of the dishwasher to remove any stains.
  4. Pour a small pot of hot water into the basket at the bottom of the dishwasher.
  5. Rinse the sponge and squeeze four drops of dish soap on the sponge to scrub the racks.
  6. Replace the racks and close the dishwasher.
  7. Sprinkle some vinegar and bleach on a cleaning cloth and wipe down the outside of the dishwasher to remove any smudges.

Stainless steel appliances look great, but they require some special care when it comes to cleaning.

Note that it’s best to avoid any types of cleaning products that could scratch or damage the stainless steel surface, such as scouring powders, steel wool, bleach, and other harsh chemicals.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 teaspoon dish soap
  • 1-quart hot water
  • Microfiber cloth
  • Dry cloth

How to do it:

  1. Mix dish soap and hot water together.
  2. Get a microfiber cloth wet and rub the cleaning solution in small sections of the appliance, working in the same direction as the grain.
  3. Rinse the surface with a bit of clean, hot water.
  4. Use a clean cloth to dry the surface immediately to avoid watermarks.
